Renee Boje — Plant Spirit Medicine Society Founder & Director

ReneeforCrowdfundr.jpg

Renee Boje has walked the path of the Sacred Feminine for as long as she can remember. From the earliest days of childhood, she felt an unshakable bond with Mother Nature, an ancient knowing that pulsed through her whenever she stood barefoot upon the Earth, hands outstretched to the wind, her soul intertwined with the rhythm of the trees and the song of the rivers. The plants spoke. The flowers sang. Mother Earth called her home.

As she grew, she came to understand that this living connection to the plants and to Mother Earth, the birthright of all beings, was being severed, repressed, and hidden behind walls of prohibition and fear. The sacred medicines that had healed, guided, and illuminated countless souls for generations had been demonized, and those who carried their wisdom were cast as outlaws for daring to remember what had been forgotten. She could not turn away.

In 1997, Renee's life took an unexpected and perilous turn. She found herself facing a sentence of ten years to life in federal prison, not because she had harmed another being, but because she had chosen integrity over betrayal, refusing to turn against those who tended a legal plant medicine garden in alignment with California law. Faced with a choice between submission and the unknown, she gave away her possessions, said silent farewells, and crossed into Canada.

What followed was a decade-long, high-profile legal battle to win her freedom through the Canadian courts. During those years, Renee channeled her resilience into building community around the very medicines she had risked everything to protect. In 1999, she created the Sunshine Coast Goddess Spiral, where she began facilitating Wheel of the Year Ceremonies honoring Plant Spirit Medicines as sacraments - the seed of a devotion to seasonal ceremony that continues to root her work today.

Renee opened the Urban Shaman, Vancouver's first entheogen shop, bringing the wisdom of plant allies to the wider community, and went on to create Shakti Blissful Botanicals, a sanctuary of sacred ceremony and herbal artistry on Commercial Drive. She also co-founded a Plant Spirit Medicine Aya church in Vancouver, open to men and women alike, holding space for seekers from all walks of life on their sacred journeys.

Her path eventually led her to the heart of the Amazon. A medicine song sung one night during a Vancouver ceremony, a sacred saiti of the Yawanawa Tribe, moved through her so deeply that she knew she had to find its source. She traveled to Brazil and was welcomed into the Yawanawa village, where she became a student of Putanny Yawanawa, one of the first women of her tribe to walk the path of shamanism and earn the title of Paje - a title which was previously reserved only for the men of the Yawanawa tribe. Under Putanny's guidance, Renee underwent profound healing and forged a spiritual bond with her teacher that continues to shape her work today.

It was this journey, and a deepening recognition that women needed a safe and dedicated space to heal trauma and gather without men present. This inspired Renee to create a Plant Spirit Medicine Temple where she began facilitating plant medicine ceremonies for women on the Sunshine Coast of BC. This body of work eventually gave rise to the Plant Spirit Medicine Society. As Founder and Director, Renee now facilitates Plant Spirit Medicine Ceremonies for women in the Society's care, holding space rooted in lineage, lived experience, and an unwavering devotion to Mother Earth.

Renee's life's work rests on a singular truth: that our liberation is woven into the fabric of the Earth itself. Renee firmly believes - when we heal, mother earth heals. When we awaken, consciousness expands. When we remember, we return home.

Today, Renee also owns and operates Freja's Magic Potions, a ceremonial herbal apothecary on the Sunshine Coast offering herbal workshops and hand crafted small-batch botanical extracts, herbal teas, and body care crafted in honour of the goddesses and feminine archetypes that inspire her work.

Through Freja's, Renee continues to offer Wheel of the Year Ceremonies for women - a practice close to her heart, born of a deep passion for honoring the changing of the seasons in Mother Nature. Ceremonies marking the wheel of the year have been held by humans since the dawn of time, and Renee sees them as a living way to help us stay connected to the rhythms of Mother Earth.

Renee also offers private gatherings for Plant Spirit Medicine Society members through the Mermaid Lounge in Gibsons, BC - evenings centered around Music and Magic, where Plant Spirit Medicines serve as the magic ingredient supporting people to connect with their higher selves in a safe space, and to connect with a community of like-minded souls walking a conscious path of healing and remembrance. As the Plant Spirit Medicine Society holds: We Celebrate Music as a Vessel to the Divine, recognizing Ecstatic States of Consciousness as sacred pathways to connection, creativity, and wholeness, and revere Plant Spirit Medicines as Sacraments - gifts of healing, awakening, and remembrance, the birthright of all living beings.

Renee is currently in the process of completing a book called Plant Spirit Medicines & the Divine Feminine, a labour of love more than two decades in the making. She currently has a Crowdfundr campaign open, where those who feel called can contribute toward bringing this work into its final form and out into the world.

"The space Renee Boje holds in ceremony is incredible, her ability to connect to spirit and a safe space for women is profound. She is very intuitive which makes her a great space holder and able to tune into the energy in the room and feel where everyone is at is a gift.  Her connection to herbal medicine is so deep. She has definitely been a medicine carrier in other lifetimes. She is extremely  knowledgeable on how to assist women on their healing journey and is also a herbalist. If you have never taken any of her courses or workshops I would highly recommend you do and you will find out for yourself just how special she is"

"I have been involved as a volunteer and member of Renee's church, Ceu das Sereias, for a few years now. My life is radically different from before I became involved. Renee knows how to authentically create a safe and loving space for people from all walks of life, especially women. Her talents are immeasurable and include, but are not limited to; effectively holding space, ceremony leadership, relationship coaching, esoteric and Occult teachings, massage, natural product manufacturing, community leadership, musical direction and the list goes on.

Under Renee's direction and guidance I have been able to heal many traumas from my past, as well as develop my own unique form of manifestation.

Renee has much knowledge that we may only dream of, and if you have the opportunity to learn from her, you should jump at the chance.

I am grateful to have met Renee in this lifetime and I hope to meet her in the next."

"Renee holds a very loving and safe space, in which I feel so seen, heard, and welcome by her angelic presence. Her abundance of knowledge and experience gained from her own studies, guides and her spiritual teachers is easily felt, and creates a sacred container full of hope, healing, and awakenings. The practices I have learned from being in her circle are ones I will take with me through my life, and the wisdom and acceptance I have recieved from her and the other women in the group has helped me set my heart free. Renee truly is a healer and a wonderful teacher, and I am honoured to be not only learning to heal myself, but how to hold a healing, safe and visionary space for others!"

We honor Paje Putanny Yawanawa in our Ceremonies....

Our Plant Spirit Medicine Society Founder & Ceremony Facilitator, Renee Boje, honours Putanny Yawanawa as her Spiritual Mother. Putanny, along with her sister, Hushahu were the first women to be recognized as shamans in the Yawanawa Tribe, located in the Brazilian Amazon. You may view videos of Putanny & Hushahu below.

Renee has a deep Love & Profound respect for the Yawanawa lineage, their Saitis (Sacred songs which carry a healing vibration) & traditions. She is devoted to building a Rainbow Bridge between the Sunshine Coast of BC & the Yawanawa Tribe in the Brazilian Amazon.

We sing Yawanawa Saitis  in most of our Plant Spirit Medicine Ceremonies & do a deep study of these Saitis in our Plant Priestess Initiation course. We also recite prayers in the Yawanawa language. Renee is devoted to preserving the sacred teachings of the Yawanawa lineage by sharing all she has learned and continues to learn in her studies with the Yawanawa tribe. Please feel welcome to listen to some of the Beautiful Saitis sung by Putanny Yawanawa in our gallery below.

Renee & the women of the Plant Spirit Medicine Temple are raising funds to bring Paje Putanny Yawanawa to Canada to hold Plant Spirit Medicine Ceremonies & Workshops for the women of our church here on the Sunshine Coast. Our Plant Spirit Medicine Temple also intends to bring a variety of Female Medicine Women here to hold workshops & ceremonies for our community.
